So, as the prime minister said, this is Japan's "worst crisis since Hiroshima." This earthquake measured 8.9 on the Richter scale and was devastating to Japan.
Most of the damage was in a city called Sendai, shown on this map.
This earthquake has not only had bad aftershcoks, however, the tsunami reached all the way to California, where it still did millions of dollars of damage.
The death toll is high and continues to escalate, along with many people still missing and injured. The death toll could well be over 10,000.
Also, the cooling system at the Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant failed. The residents in the vicinity were evacuated. An emergency was also declared at the Fukushima II nuclear power plant. This was rated a 4 on the International Nuclear Event Scale (0-7) and poses the threat of a meltdown. This number may get higher.
So, your thoughts on the event? Do you have any person connections to anyone in Sendai or family over there?
